Badu
Badu is the face of M.A.R.S. Even though there were many rescues before him and after him, he was the one who defined us as a special needs rescue. Badu, an English Bulldog with a heart as big as his personality, arrived at Miracle Angel Rescue and Sanctuary under extraordinary circumstances. Born with a cleft palate, Badu faced immediate and severe challenges that threatened his survival from the moment he came into the world. Due to his cleft palate, Badu couldn’t nurse properly, making it impossible for him to receive the nutrition he needed in the usual way. Miracle Angel Rescue stepped in and began the arduous task of feeding him through a tube. For seven long months, Badu required round-the-clock care. Feeding him through a tube was delicate work, requiring precision and patience, but Yusley was unwavering in her commitment to Badu’s survival. During these early months, Badu also battled a series of illnesses that compounded his fragile state. Respiratory infections, digestive issues, and other complications were constant hurdles. Despite these challenges, Badu’s spirit remained unbroken. He demonstrated a remarkable will to live and a resilience that inspired everyone around him. After seven months of intensive care, Badu had grown stronger. His team of caregivers and veterinary specialists determined that he was finally ready for the surgery to repair his cleft palate. The surgery was complex and carried significant risks, but it was Badu’s best chance at a normal, healthy life. The day of the surgery was filled with anticipation and hope. The skilled veterinary surgeon worked meticulously, and after several hours, the procedure was deemed a success. Badu’s recovery was carefully monitored, and gradually (or not so), he began to eat and drink on his own for the first time. As Badu’s health improved, his personality began to shine through. He revealed himself to be a strong, spirited dog with a distinctive character. Badu was known for his determined attitude and his unique charm, quickly becoming a favorite. However, Badu’s journey also turned him into quite the spoiled pup. He had grown accustomed to the constant attention and special care he received during his recovery. Whether it was demanding extra treats or insisting on his favorite toys, Badu knew how to get what he wanted. His endearing yet spoiled nature made him even more lovable. Badu’s story is a testament to the resilience of animals and the power of dedicated care. From a fragile puppy with a grim prognosis to a vibrant, thriving dog, Badu’s journey has been nothing short of miraculous. Malú
I want to share with you the story of our charming English
Bulldog, Malu. We found her on the street, disoriented and scared, after her
owner abandoned her without compassion. We were so moved by her situation that
we decided to take her home and give her the love and care she deserves.
At first, Malu went through difficult times. She missed her old home, and it
took a lot of work to make her feel safe and loved. We tried to find her a new
home, but noticing that she did not adapt easily, we made the decision to keep
her. Despite her somewhat reserved and resentful nature, we have learned to
understand her needs and to love her unconditionally. Malu has become an
indispensable part of our family. Although her past has marked her, we are
committed to giving her all the affection and patience she needs. Every day is
a step towards her recovery, and we are grateful for the opportunity to be her
safe haven. Malu has filled our lives with joy and love, and we could not
imagine our home without her. Her journey from a scared, abandoned dog to a
beloved family member is a testament to the power of love and patience. We
continue to work on building her confidence and trust, celebrating each small
victory along the way. Malu’s story reminds us that every animal deserves
a chance at a loving home, no matter their past. We are honored to be part of
her journey and look forward to many more years of joy and companionship with
our dear Malu.
Matt “the traveler”
“The Traveler” is what Daddy named him. Matt was born in our house after we rescued his mom. He was one of eight siblings, but from day one, I knew he was special.
Shortly after birth, Matt developed cherry eye, a condition requiring surgery. A few weeks later, we noticed he couldn’t keep food down and wasn’t gaining any weight. We soon discovered Matt suffered from chronic reflux, preventing him from keeping any milk in his stomach and causing him to lose all the nutrients from his mom’s milk. I had to feed him extra nutrients and hold him upright to prevent him from throwing up.
Just when we thought we had the reflux under control, Matt developed a huge bump in his chest. This was diagnosed as megaesophagus, a disorder in which the esophagus dilates and loses motility, explaining the reflux and causing frequent regurgitation. After this diagnosis, Matt became inseparable from me. I had to take him everywhere to ensure he wouldn’t throw up and hold him still for at least 10-15 minutes after each meal to help him keep his food down. Despite all his health issues, Matt was one happy puppy. He loved to explore, which is how he got his name. His daddy named him after Uncle Matt from the Fraggle Rock cartoon. Matt would leave his cage and roam around the house, fearless and curious. He was the leader of the group and walked around the big dogs confidently. Fast forward three years, Matt stayed with us and is now one healthy boy. He has learned to manage his condition, knowing when to stop, when to wait, and even when he is going to throw up. He also knows how to chew on everything and somehow manages to get away with it. Just look at his face, and you’ll find out why he’s so special. Matt’s journey from a fragile puppy with numerous health issues to a robust, adventurous dog is a testament to his resilience and spirit. His story is a constant reminder of the incredible bond between humans and their furry companions and the extraordinary lengths we go to ensure their well-being.
Angel
Angel was named after the vet clinic that intervened to save her. It was 8 pm on a Tuesday night, and I was still at the office when I received a call from Ada, a dear friend who owns Four Paws Angel Veterinary. She asked me to pick up a tiny puppy who had just been born, and the owner requested to have her put to sleep because she had a cleft palate and cleft lip. My husband rushed to the clinic and picked her up. He brought her to me, still wet from the C-section. I was worried and, at the same time, overwhelmed; it was happening again, just like with Badu! Many people wanted to keep her, but I wasn’t sure they would be able to offer the special care she needed, so we decided to keep her. However, Angel was different from Badu. Her palate wasn’t as open, and she was able to drink from a bottle. There was no need to tube-feed her, and this was a significant difference. Despite this, the early months were challenging. Angel, like Badu, resented the constant care and intervention required for her to thrive. Angel hated me as much as Badu did for the first few months of her life. Every feeding and every moment of care felt like a struggle. But as time passed, things began to change. Five months later, Angel loves me as much as I love her. She has been an exceptional puppy, showing resilience and adaptability that continues to amaze us. Now, Angel is thriving. Her journey from a tiny, vulnerable puppy to a playful and loving companion has been a testament to the power of patience and care. She has brought immense joy into our lives, and her bond with us grows stronger every day. Angel is one of the reasons why our rescue is named Miracle Angel Rescue and Sanctuary. Her story of survival and transformation embodies the spirit of hope and resilience that we strive to provide for all the animals in our care. Angel’s journey from a near-hopeless situation to a life filled with love and happiness is a daily reminder of why we do what we do. Angel’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact that compassion and dedication can have on the life of an animal in need. Pixie
We would like to share with you the incredible story of our beloved French Bulldog, whom we affectionately call “Pixie.” When she arrived at our home, she didn’t even have a name, and her story broke our hearts. Pixie came to us pregnant, without care and without identity. As we got to know her, we realized how good and affectionate she was, despite the difficulties she had faced. Her pregnancy was not easy, and we faced a critical moment when we had to perform a cesarean section two weeks earlier than expected. Pixie’s progesterone dropped dangerously, putting her life and that of her puppies at risk. Unfortunately, the situation was even more challenging, as veterinarians and other specialists recommended putting the puppies to sleep, as they believed there was no hope of survival. However, we decided to take a different path and brought the little ones home. The following weeks were intense, with sleepless nights, tireless efforts, and tears of concern. But thanks to the love, care, and dedication of everyone in the family, we managed to save five of those beautiful puppies. Now, these brave little ones live happily with their brave mom, Pixie. This experience taught us about the importance of hope, perseverance, and unconditional love. Pixie and her puppies became a symbol of resilience and the incredible impact that compassion and care can have on lives in need. Each day with Pixie and her adorable puppies is a reminder of the strength of the bond we share with our pets. Now, Pixie and her puppies are thriving. The once nameless and neglected dog is now a cherished member of our family, living a life filled with love and joy. Her puppies, saved against all odds, are a testament to the power of never giving up. We are grateful for every day we spend with Pixie and her adorable puppies, and we want to share this story with you to inspire and remind others of the difference that love and determination can make. Hatuey & Bucanero
We would like to share with you the incredible story of Hatuey and Bucanero, two French Bulldog twin brothers who came into our lives in a very special way. Both are part of Pixie’s story, their brave mother, who faced a difficult delivery where everyone was at risk, but Hatuey and Bucanero emerged as little fighters, born together in the same sac. Their story is a reminder of the strength of family ties and the importance of patience and love. From the beginning, these two inseparable brothers have spent every moment of their lives together. Their connection was evident; they shared every experience, adventure, and corner of life. They do everything as if they had an indestructible bond between them. Although their union is beautiful, it also presented a challenge when it came to finding them a home, as it was difficult to convince someone to adopt them together. Most people showed reluctance to adopt two dogs at the same time, and that’s how they became an irreplaceable part of our family. Hatuey stands out for being the most playful and affectionate of the pair, always filling any corner he finds with joy and laughter. He has a knack for bringing smiles to everyone he meets, his playful antics a source of constant entertainment. On the other hand, Bucanero exhibits a strength of character and bravery that amazes everyone who knows him. He is the protector, always alert and ready to face any challenge with courage and determination. Bucanero’s bravery is matched only by his deep affection for his brother and mother. The connection between them is palpable, and it is evident how much they love each other and how much they love their dear mother Pixie. They are a testament to the unbreakable bond of family, demonstrating daily the strength and comfort that come from such connections. We are grateful for the joy of having Hatuey and Bucanero in our lives, reminding us of the importance of family and the strength that can arise from the most challenging circumstances. Their story continues to inspire us, showing that with love and togetherness, even the toughest situations can be overcome. The Story of Cleopatra (Cleo)
We would like to share with you the touching story of our beloved German Shepherd, Cleopatra, whom we affectionately call Cleo. Her journey has been a rollercoaster of emotions, but her resilience and strength have inspired everyone who knows her. Cleo, being the smallest of her litter, faced challenges from the beginning. Initially, it was uncertain if she would survive, but her fighting spirit brought her into our lives. She lived with us until she was healthy and strong enough to be adopted by an amazing person. Cleo thrived in her new home, but her journey took another turn when her owner had to travel out of town and left her with a friend. This friend move to Kentucky talking Cleo with him. This new stage in Kentucky became difficult for Cleo, and eventually, the police contacted us after she escaped (she had a microchip). A kind gentleman volunteered to pick her up, becoming her guardian angel. We decided to embark on a journey from Miami to Kentucky to bring her back home, where she belongs. When we recovered her, Cleo weighed only 45 pounds. With love, attention, and effort, we worked tirelessly to rehabilitate her. Her journey has not been easy, and although she still faces anxiety challenges today, we are grateful to see her healthy and strong, now weighing 89 pounds. Cleo suffers from separation anxiety, which has led to episodes of her trying to run away and jumping fences. To ensure her safety and well-being, we had to create a secure environment for her. This involved reinforcing our yard, safeguarding her space and providing her with constant companionship to alleviate her anxiety. Cleo has taught us about resilience, the importance of giving second chances, and the healing power of unconditional love. Her presence in our lives is a constant reminder that we all deserve a chance to be loved and healed. Cleo’s journey from a vulnerable puppy to a strong, thriving dog is a testament to the power of love and determination. Despite the hardships she has faced, Cleo’s spirit remains unbroken, and her story continues to inspire us every day. The Story of Bebe
I want to introduce you to a very special member of our family: Bebe, our beloved Maltese. Bebe is not only one of the oldest members of the family but also an endless source of love, courage, and resilience. Fourteen years ago, Bebe came into our lives under difficult circumstances. Originally, she lived in the countryside with a Yorkie, but unfortunately, her owner’s parents, who had no experience in animal care, had a tragic incident with her brother involving the farm tractor. Fearful that Bebe would suffer the same fate, her owner asked us to give her a safe home. Since then, Bebe has become an integral part of our family. At one point, she was pregnant and had her puppies in our home. Although two of her little ones are no longer with us, Bebe remains a loving and protective mother to those who remain, caring for them as if they were her own puppies. What stands out most about Bebe is her unwavering courage. Despite facing challenges and illnesses, she moves forward without losing that spark of love that characterizes her. She is not afraid of anything, and her brave spirit is an inspiration to all of us. Bebe is more than a pet; she is a testament to love, overcoming adversity, and the importance of providing a home where animals feel safe and loved. Her journey from a potentially dangerous situation to a life filled with care and affection exemplifies the profound impact that a loving home can have. We are grateful for every day we share with Bebe and look forward to many more filled with her unparalleled affection. Loui & Coach
Today I want to introduce you to two very special members of our pack: Loui and Coach, two charming Maltese dogs who fill our days with joy and mischief.
Loui: The Gentle Soul:
Loui, at 12 years old, is one of the four babies that our beloved Bebe had. He has been pampered since day one and, although he is already an adult, he is still his mom’s favorite. Loui is incredibly affectionate but has a somewhat fearful spirit, as he is afraid of almost everything. However, his courage and confidence grow when he is near his inseparable sister, Coach.
Coach: The Bold Protector:
Coach, despite being one of the smallest, is a force of courage and determination. She is always by Loui’s side, protecting him and providing him with security. Her bold spirit stands out when they go out to the yard to run and play with their dear mom. Together they form an unstoppable team, filling every corner of our home with laughter and joy.
The complicity between Loui and Coach is palpable. Although Loui tends to be more reserved, Coach encourages him and makes him feel safe. It is beautiful to see how they take care of each other and share happy moments in the yard. Loui’s fearfulness is balanced by Coach’s bravery, creating a perfect harmony between the two. We are grateful to have Loui and Coach in our lives. After going to what we thought was going to be her forever home, life conspired, and Bella returned to our pack and never left again. Though her first placement didn’t work out as planned, it led her back to where she truly belongs—with us. Bella has found her true place with us, and we’re thrilled to have her back where she belongs with her mom and siblings. She fits perfectly into our family, her joyful spirit and affectionate nature adding a special touch to our lives. Her bond with her siblings is heartwarming, and she continues to bring immense happiness to our home. Bella’s story is a testament to the idea that sometimes, things happen for a reason. Her return to our family has been a blessing, and we can’t imagine our lives without her. She has brought joy, laughter, and a touch of mischief to our days, and we are grateful to have her back in our lives.
The Story of Milo
Milo, a little puppy from the same litter as Bella, faced a tough battle to survive. This is his story… Milo’s early days were a struggle. He suffered from a lack of movement in his intestines, which required him to undergo enemas to help alleviate the issue. It was a challenging time for this brave little pup. In addition to his intestinal challenges, Milo also struggled to breathe and had to be placed in oxygen chambers to help him. This courageous little puppy faced more than his fair share of obstacles in the early days of his life. Despite our unwavering efforts to keep him alive, we were deeply afraid that Milo wasn’t going to make it. The uncertainty and fear weighed heavily on us as we fought for his life. Milo’s pores were closed, and when his hair started to grow, it caused the skin to break. To protect him from scratching, he had to wear sweaters, adding another layer of care and attention to his already challenging situation. Despite the numerous challenges, Milo survived and has blossomed into one adorable little cutie with a vibrant personality. His resilience and spirit have shone through, making him a true testament to the power of love and care.
